Background: A great resource for aspiring physical education presenters! This instructional DVD was designed to be used as a follow-up resource for K-12 PE teachers who have attended one of Artie’s PE State Standards Workshops in other states and/or any of his fun presentations at the local/state/national level. As such, these are the generic activities Artie typically uses at his workshops.
The DVD is divided into four sections. They include:
Artie’s Ice Breakers: A great collection of fun ice breakers: Handshake Partners, Clap 3 Times, Okay Sign, Bumper Cars, No-Fault Zone Square Dance, Call Your Own Square Dance, Triangle Tag, Birdy Dance, and Zoom!
Instant Activities: A short overview of why you should the teaching strategy of instant activities/active roll call in your daily structure. Several examples of instant activities (Mystery Maze, Fitness Wheel/Fitness Spokes).
Throwing/Catching/Striking Skills: Learn how to break down and teach these three critical skills for your students. Do you remember what body part leads the overhand throw? Easy-to-remember skill cues (i.e., Shoulder points, elbow’s high, step and turn, watch it fly!; Tick-Tock, I’m a Catching Clock).
Artie’s Favorite Stories: Why is the PE teacher the most important person in a school? Who is your personal hero? The “Story of a Boy, the Rope, and the Truth” and ” The Old Man and the Bridge.”
