This activity will enhance your students’ volleying skills through a cooperative but challenging activity.

Place 12 beach balls in hula hoops around the perimeter of the gym. The students are working in pairs for this activity, but the entire class is working against the clock.

The objective of this activity is to see how long the class can volley the ball back and forth with their partners without missing. When the music starts, the students begin striking the ball back and forth for the following time periods:

  • Round One Goal: 15 seconds
  • Round Two Goal: 30 seconds
  • Round Three Goal: 45 seconds, etc.
  • When time is up, the teacher stops the music and congratulates the class for meeting their goal. If a ball hits the ground, the teacher stops the music, tells the class their time, begins another round. We have had students go for up to 8 minutes!
