HOW TO PLAY

  1. Rip – Crunch – Throw – Go
In this activity, provide each student with a full or half-newspaper sheet. The students crunch the newspaper into a ball, throw that ball as far as they can, and chase that ball to retrieve it.
  2. Newspaper Javelins
In this activity, provide each student with a full newspaper sheet. The students roll the sheet into a spear or javelin shape and throw it as far as possible across the playing area.
  3. Shooting Stars
In this activity, provide each student with a full newspaper sheet. The students tear-off a strip of the paper for a “tail” and attach it to the rest of the paper sheet that has been crunched into a ball with tape. Challenge the students to throw their “shooting stars” across the gym as far as possible.
  4. Pick Up Trucks – this is played after the area is full of paper balls and it is time to pick up
This is the culminating activity, and is played after the playing area is full of paper balls and it is time to clean up. The students (Pick-Up Trucks) use a crab walk to move around the space. As their “pick-up truck” finds a paper ball or other object, they place the ball on their tummies (flatbed of the truck). After collecting as many balls as they can handle, their go to the “Recycling Center” (Recycle Bin).

W.O.W. (words of wisdom)
Tell the students that it is okay for their dump truck to get a “flat tire” and to scoot on their bottoms to the Recycling Center.
