Mike Bohannon from Leavenworth, Kansas submitted this fun bowling lead-up for grades K-3.
Background: This is a great lead-up activity that we use with our younger students to introduce the game of bowling.
How We Do It: Divide the students into groups of three — one bowler, one hoop holder, and one bowling ball retriever. The bowler gets three tries to roll the bowling ball (Gatorskin ball) through the hula hoop. The hoop holder stands to the side when holding the hula hoop. The hoop should be touching the floor and should not be moved when bowling.
The retriever rolls the bowling ball back to the bowler. After three tries, the bowler becomes the retriever, the retriever becomes the hula hoop holder, and the hoop holder becomes the bowler. Score 10 points for each time the ball rolls through the hoop. Who can score 100 points? Two hundred points? Have a perfect game (300 points)?
