A “hand-jive” activity for grades K-5 to use at your next PTA/PTO program.
Submitted by Jane McGill California, Missouri.

BACKGROUND: Here’s a quick idea for a fun P.T.A. program. I had one group of students to do a “hand jive” routine to demonstrate coordination, sequencing skills, and group cooperation.

To make the routine a little more dramatic, we had the students wear white cotton gloves (or socks) on their hands and white cotton socks on their feet. A black light was used and all of the lights were turned off.

It was fun to see 30 sets of hands and feet “floating” on stage. All of the parents were really impressed by our “jiving coordination!”

(P.S. – If you’re having any trouble with the black light reaching across your stage, try using a mirror or mirrored tiles behind the black light.)
