A teacher tip for categorizing games/lessons for grades K-8.
Submitted by Monica Rader, Marietta, Georgia.

BACKGROUND: Of all of the resources available to Physical Education teachers, I find Great Activities the best! I would like to share a card filing system that I have found most useful. I take 4″ x 6″ cards and “cut and paste” the best of each issue’s activities on them.

The cards are categorized by subject with a numerical system that is marked in my lesson plan book. I use an small alphabetical card file that can be bought at most grocery stores.

For example, in a unit on football, I would write in my plan book “Football Tag (K-29).” This means that the activity is filed under the letter “K” and is the 29th card.

My planning time has been minimized greatly over the years by having these cards at my fingertips. The filing system not only includes team sports, but locomotor games, parachute activities, scooterboard activities, and warm-up ideas.

Every teacher that I have introduced to this idea has found it most beneficial and helpful as they organize their lesson plans. Try it!
