The Great Activities Publishing Company was founded in 1982 by Artie Kamiya. The company’s first product was the Great Activities Newspaper, a small 8-page publication developed so more Physical Education teachers could share their “great activities” with others. Working from the family’s kitchen table, Artie produced the individual pages by hand with pen, paper, and an ever-present bottle of White Out.
This was the country’s first elementary Physical Education publication with a large national readership…
Today, the Great Activities Newspaper is a 48-page magazine and the Great Activities Publishing Company, anchored in its humble beginnings, has grown to offer a vast catalog educational resources and gifts. Furthermore, Great Activities is a leading advocate in State-Standard Physical Education, offering its breakthrough series, “Teaching PE Power Standards,” and founding the National PE Institute, an outstanding annual conference dedicated to linking curriculum to assessment.
Great Activities also offers online products, such as the PEP Club (a searchable games & resource database) and the Virtual PE Administrator: An online Physical Education assessment platform for school districts.
